New Delhi : The Supreme Court is likely to pronounce its verdict today over the interim bail of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is lodged in Tihar jail since March 21, 2024 in his alleged connection to Delhi liquor scam. Mr Kejriwal has urged for an interim bail for campaigning in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

A bench, comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, had reserved its verdict on interim bail to Mr Kejriwal on May 7.

The bench has divided decision of interim bail into two parts; the first part is over the argument made by the probing agency, who calls it 'illegal' to grant him bail. The second part is in favour of Mr Kejriwal considering the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the Delhi court had extended judicial custody of Mr Kejriwal till May 20

ED Opposes Bail Plea

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate has opposed the bail plea filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The agency has claimed that laws are same for everyone and mentioned that campaigning for Lok Sabha election is not a fundamental or constitutional right of any person.

The agency has also mentioned that no political leader has been granted bail on the pretext of campaigning for any election in the history. Doing so will set a wrong example for everyone in the future.

In the filed affidavit, the agency has also mentioned that the court had called for equal laws for all citizens while hearing in the bail plea filed by former minister Manish Sisodia, a co-accused in the same case.
