Om Birla elected as Speaker of Lok Sabha for the second time, PM Modi congratulates

New Delhi : Om Birla, three-time BJP MP, has been elected as the Lok Sabha Speaker for second time on Wednesday after he defeated INDIA bloc's candidate K Suresh via voice vote in a rare contest.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Om Birla on being elected and expressed confidence that the house would greatly benefit from the newly elected speaker’s insights and experience.

PM Modi in a post on X wrote:

"I would like to congratulate Shri Om Birla Ji on being elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha for the second time. The House will benefit greatly from his insights and experience. My best wishes to him for the tenure ahead."



Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju escorted Om Birla to the chair of the speaker.

Interestingly, before accompanying the new Lok Sabha speaker PM Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi shook hands and greeted each other with smiles.
