New Delhi : India is looking forward to bring a new regulation under which all laptops and smartphones will have to mandatorily provide type-C charging port by 2026. This will help in reducing the electronic waste and standardise charging solutions.

According to a media report, smartphones will have to align themselves with the regulation by 2025 and laptop manufacturers will have to comply to it by 2026.

The new regulation is inspired from the similar measures introduced by the European Union, which recently implemented regulations mandating USB-C connectivity starting this year.

It has been learned that the decision has been taken to enhance the user experience as one compatible cable can be used to charge multiple devices which would reduce the electronic waste.

It must be noted that the transition is expected to take over different genres of gadgets including tablets; but this will not be mandatory for light or small gadgets like fitness bands, smartwatches, earbuds and more.

The official announcement on the same is still awaited.
